by Jennie Fox (aged 11)
From the heart of Hell he stole a burning ember
And made his breath.
He dug out diamonds and rubies
From mines in South Africa
To make his eyes.
To make his teeth he took daggered crystals
And curved ivory became his claws.
Carefully combining the speed of a cheetah
And the swiftness of the dolphin
He made his wings.
Then in the dead of night he crept
Down to the moonlit sea
And with nets made from golden wire he caught
A shoal of a thousand fish
And used their scales as his skin.
The dragon was made.
by Georgina Dolan (aged 6)

He jumped down a giant plug.

Two Legged Lizard by Oliver Weaver

Dogs for Sale by Violet Macdonald (aged 12)
can't fly or run or skip,
Or drag to air a sinking ship,
He can't fly planes or sail a sub,
Or make things with a yoghurt tub,
He cannot talk or shake your hand,
He can't jump like a rubber band,
My dog can't drive or navigate,
Or on a stick balance a plate,
He can't even go for a walk,
Let alone draw with a chalk.
They said he could, when I bought him,
Wonder dogs, so fit and trim!
And now the streets are cleared of fog,
I'm not too sure it is a dog.
Days by Stacey Kearney (aged 14)
a story, granddad,'
The little dragons roared
'About the army of humans
Out of which you soared.'
Of how you fled that day
From the sharp swords they threw at you
As you raised great wings and flew away.'
battled with the humans
(And the part we like the most)
Their retreat from your raging fire
When you burned them all to toast.'
And waved his scaly tail.
'All right children, settle down,
And listen to the tale.'
his primeval teeth
Near-blind eyes began to flood
As his mind and body drifted back,
To memories seared with blood.
were kings of the world
And days were built to last,
When magic was merely magic
'We know this bit!' they gasped.
the cave one morning
Looking for humans to eat
When suddenly, without warning,
I spied an army below my feet.'
as sharp as steel
On a new-born dragon's tongue
Fused with fire and brimstone,
I called, 'Come little humans, come.'
soldiers faced me,
Waving swords in hand,
But dragon flames are fatal
Men lay strewn on char-grilled land'.
in his memories,
He was lost to reverie.
'Old granddad is a dreamer,'
The little dragons scorned with glee.
laughing in the background
And lots of nudging too
'He's told that tale so often,
He now believes it's true'.
left the old pensioner dreaming
With memories, haunting, strong
As he told of his adventures
From a time for which he longed.
No prizes but a big Well Done!!!

Friend by Clara Gaddie (aged 11)

and she stays there all day long.
She grazes grass during the night,
and only then she leaves the pond.
Her legs are much like a tree stump.
Her skin is rough like leather.
She's got a color between gray and blue,
And a snout like no other.
Though it would be impolite,
Most would call her gigantic.
Although she's 13 feet from end to end,
She's still good enough to be, my hippo friend.

Amazing Hamster by Celina Macdonald
is an amazing sight.
Come closer, now. He will not bite.
He'll do a cartwheel just for you,
And then he will unlace your shoe.
He'll fight your dad, 'coz he is tough.
Just tell me when you've seen enough.
And while your father rubs his bruises
He'll wrestle with you, he never loses.
And then he'll jump above your head,
And scale the walls of the garden shed.
Now close your eyes, make all lights dim,
For he's shy when strangers look at him.
And then you'll see what he can do,
As he performs his act for you.
we can't publish everyone's poems but here are the

Animal by Rebecca Pritchard
His big black nose
If you see him
Hide your toes.
His very strong wings
They fly him so high
But if he's near
His very large feet
Were made to defeat
So if I were you
I wouldn't compete.
His multicoloured fur
In a mood
I guess you know what he is
Yes you are so right
I hope I don't scare you much
But he's coming out tonight.

The elephants go on a walk
While the Zebras just talk
Giraffes like to laugh

The reptiles are scary
And the porcupines are hairy
The lions roar
While the keeper shuts the door
